The alheira is a type of Portuguese sausage, made with meats other than pork (usually veal, duck, chicken, quail or rabbit) and bread.

Recipe/Receita:

1 alheira

1 cottage cheese

a bit of olive oil

juice of 1/2 lemon

2 tablespoons of poppy seed

2 tablespoons sesame seed

1/2 tablespoon breadcrumbs

1 alheira

1 requeijão

1 fio de azeite

sumo de 1/2 limão

2 c. de sopa de sementes de papoila

2 c. de sopa de sementes de sésamo

1/2 c. de sopa de pão ralado

Remove the skin from the sausage and undo it with a fork. Pour a little olive oil in a frying pan and fry the sausage for 2 minutes. Let cool slightly. Add the cottage cheese and knead well. Mix a few drops of lemon juice and check the seasoning.

In a bowl, mix the seeds and breadcrumbs. Make small balls and pass them by the seed mixture. Place them in paper forms. Serve with toast.

Retire a pele à alheira e desfaça-a com um garfo. Deite um fio de azeite numa frigideira e frite a alheira por 2 minutos. Deixe arrefecer um pouco. Junte o requeijão e amasse bem.  Misture umas gotas de limão e verifique o tempero.

Numa taça, misture as sementes e o pão ralado. Molde pequenas bolinhas e passe-as pela mistura das sementes. Coloque os bombons em formas de papel. Sirva com tostas.
